Now all parents go through this when they go out to buy groceries with their children. The child starts crying and whining unless you put in your cart the thing that they are asking for. And what is the kind of stuff that they ask for? Just what they shouldnt be having. You see households across America buying their children stuff like Coco Puffs cereal, candy bars, soda, chocolate covered granola bars, cheese & macaroni and hot dogs. When you are letting your children have things like that to eat, just because they want them, what kind of health and future are you offering them?

I, myself, was raised as such a kid, munching away on potato chips, chocolate bars and hot dogs. I, just like all the other children, also used to bother my mother unless she gave in to whatever I wanted to have. Parents just dont have the patience for that.

When I was 12, I stood 411 and weighed 135 pounds. In simple words, I was badly overweight. I was prescribed a restricted diet by our physician and suddenly I was not allowed to have anything that I could have just yesterday. The restriction was beyond me.

Anyway, I didnt care any more myself and still bought the stuff I wanted to eat stealing money from my parents. But it certainly wasnt the best feeling in the world.

It was way back in the 80s and at that time I was one of the odd obese kids in the neighborhood. Now the oddity has become the norm. One out of every three children in the United States is overweight and their eating habits are not any different to mine when I was a kid. Most of the parents are involved in full time jobs, and they dont have any time or patience to look after the health and diet of their children. As a result, children live fully on junk food and fast food unrestrained and unguided.

We have to change these eating habits if we want to save our children from obesity, which has become a major health issue for children in America. And the responsibility for that falls on the parents. Im sorry to say this but it is primarily the negligence of the parents that let children choose such harmful eating habits. The children only follow and learn everything from their elders, and eating habits are no exceptions.

Lead by example and create a health conscious environment at your home, which allows your child to learn about the importance of a healthy and balanced diet. Here is how you can start making some family lifestyle changes:

- Teach and explain to your child the difference between health and non-healthy food choices.

- Sit with your child and along with his or her participation, complete a to-buy groceries list.

- Shop along with your child only for the items on this list.

- Encourage your children to adopt healthy eating habits. Involve them in preparing a healthy diet plan for the family.

- While comforting your children against the ridicule of their peers for being overweight, you should also encourage them and support them to overcome obesity, which is a threat to their health.

- Be health conscious, but also trust your child and keep an open policy about food. The kids should be able to express freely when they are hungry without any pressures.

- Dont force your child to clean their plate if they are full.

- Use things like baseball as a reward or incentive, instead of using luring food products like candy.

- Encourage your child to engage in physical activity and sports, and to engage with other kids socially. For this purpose, allow video games or TV for only an hour a day.

- Dont let your children eat in front of the TV. Passive eating has the worst effect on a healthy diet and your children will lose all the sense of when they should stop eating.

Heart is one of the most vital organs of the human body. A Heart Attack, or Myrocardial Infraction, refers to the permanent damage to the muscles of this organ, or the death of its tissues due to the lack of the supply of blood. No less than a million Americans suffer this condition every year, and about a 14 million have a history of heart attacks and angina. It is also one of the biggest causes of deaths in America.

We all are aware of the central function of the heart in providing blood supply and nutrition to each and every part of our body. But for doing so, and for constant and unfaltering muscle action, the heart itself requires an uninterrupted supply of energy, in the form of oxygen and nutrients through the coronary arteries. A blockage in the coronary arteries prevent the flow of blood containing oxygen and nutrients to the heart, thus causing a starvation of the heart muscle, known in the medical science as ischemia. The problem dawns to the patient in the form of severe discomfort in the chest known as angina. If the blockage is very severe, it could lead to a heart attack, or the death of some of the heart muscles.

When a person is having a heart attack, oxygen is provided to the patient via nose plugs or facemasks to help the patient breathe easily and to supply the necessary amount of oxygen in the blood.

The medical science of our times is fully able to treat a heart attack, and further better, to prevent one, or to reduce the frequency of heart attacks. A medication called Beta Blockers is used to reduce the pulse rate and to lower the blood pressure, thus reducing the stress on the heart. It can be given to the patient both through an intravenous line and orally.

Aspirin is effective in decreasing blood clotting, as it does not let platelets to stick together. Plavix (Clopidogrel) is also an effective platelet blocker prescribed to those suffering from a heart attack. Both of these medicines can be taken orally. Among the medicine that stop blood clotting by the means of an intravenous line, Heparin, Lovenox, and 2B3A are prominent. They can help the blockage situation from worsening. Nitroglycerine is a commonly used drug among patients of angina and heart diseases. It helps reduce chest pain, and can be taken in different ways. It comes in a pill, which is allowed to dissolve in the mouth when kept under the tongue. It also is available in the form of a paste to be applied externally to the chest, and could be supplied through an IV line. Morphine is also used to control chest discomfort, as well as for controlling anxiety.

Although these medicine do a very effective job in stabilizing a condition of blockage, but are not capable of removing one. For that purpose, Thrombolytics or Clot Buster medication is used. Medicines like T-PA (Tissue Plasminogen Activator) can remove a blockage and restore the flow of blood. The blockage can also be removed by the means of balloon angioplasty.

However, prevention is certainly better than cure, which the people undergoing through the agony of a heart attack will tell you. There are a few steps that you can take in order to minimize the chances of a heart attack. A minimum of five fruits or vegetable items should be a part of your daily diet, try working out for at least two and a half hours in a week, look after your body and maintain a healthy weight. You will be doing yourself a huge favor if you dont smoke, as that minimizes your chances of being prone to heart attack by 35%.

Research proves that people who maintain a healthy diet, a healthy weight, are physically active and do not smoke, are less liable to suffer a heart attack by 80%, no matter if they are in their 50s or 60s. The kind of lifestyle you want to have is certainly up to you, but everyone wants a healthy heart. It certainly is worth the trouble modifying your lifestyle to have one.

As they say: You are what you eat. It is true that your health is largely reflective of the kind of diet you take. There is no such thing as a magic diet in the world, which will offer you a physique as you desire overnight, but the health of your body depends a lot on your food.

Enjoy every bit of it and make your mealtime a pleasant and fun-filled experience. Only just dont overeat and maintain a healthy and balanced diet with the following 10 major food sources for a healthy mind and body.

Whole Grain

Whole Grain cereals are much richer in nutrition than processed flour, as they retain the natural texture, fiber and nutrients like Vitamin B and other minerals which are lost in the refining process. Whole Grain, one of the central parts of a healthy diet, should be taken in a combination in order to make your diet more nutritious, such as, Wheat Kernels and Brown Rice, as they are used as a diet combination in many Asian countries.

Vegetables

Vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet. Those who choose to become vegans, dedicate their diet to one of the healthiest food sources on the planet. And there is a good reason for that. Vegetables offer you a wide variety to choose from, incomparable to any other food source. Apart from that, vegetables are pretty much encompassing of all the nutrients required by a human body, with minerals such as Potassium. The most famous single source for Potassium is probably a banana, but did you know that you can take as much as Potassium as that from a single stalk of Broccoli? A fresh salad with one of your favorite herbs and vegetables, with a taste of Feta cheese and vinaigrette is just what you need for the vegetable portion of your healthy balanced diet, with some taste too.

Citrus

Dont we all just love even the feeling that this word stands for. One of the best gifts of nature, citrus fruits are well known to be rich sources of Vitamin C. The rich citrus juices are one of the most delicious ways to stay healthy. But if possible, try to get the citrus fruits you want to use, fresh from where they grow as that would provide their maximum nutritious value with freshness. Having grapefruit for breakfasts and with a little tinge of fresh lime with your salads at lunch, you can perfectly indulge yourself for a citrus treat that you will not be able to give up easily.

Berries

Berries also offer quite a bit of variety, so it does not really matter if you dont like one flavor or two, you still have a lot to choose from to make this highly nutritious food source a part of your diet. All types of Berries are primarily a rich source of Vitamin C, but different types also provide other nutrients. Ripe Blueberries for example are rich in Vitamin K and B6 apart from Vitamin C, and may prove very beneficial to your circulatory system. For some variety, Acai Berries are very good sources of carbohydrates, fiber, proteins and Vitamin A in a single fruit, and are also very effective for weight-loss. Another of the berries which are not so well-known is Wolfberries or Goji Berries, which is an excellent source for Calcium, Potassium, Iron, Zinc and a myriad of other vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

Legumes

Legumes are simple dry fruits, which come in a great variety and are a common part of the diet of populations all over the world and include soybeans, peas, beans and peanuts. These are excellent sources of proteins, iron and fiber for your diet. They are very easily available and a large part of them would actually be a part of your diet already. Legumes like peanuts have a wide use in different food products and are a worldwide favorite.

Salmon

Salmon is one of the most famous fish and its consumption is considered among delicacies. It is found in the Atlantic, the Pacific and the Great Lakes and it is especially in demand as a food source in North America and Japan. Salmon is a good source of the Omega-3 oil, which is very useful for the health of human brain, and Vitamin D, which make it a very healthy and nutritious addition to your diet. It is also very popular and barely anyone can say no to a menu featuring Salmon baked whole with lime.

Nuts

Nuts and Seeds include walnuts, cashew nuts, almonds, pistachios and pecans, among many others. The peanut is an overlap between legumes and nuts. They are found to be high in Omega-3 fatty acids, and are responsible for lowering cholesterol levels, especially almonds and walnuts. For all the vegetarians out there, nuts are the best source non-meat source of Omega-3. It is a part of your diet not to be ignored at all.

Lean Proteins

A healthy diet is a balanced diet, and in order to attain and retain a healthy and active body, you must take care to balance all the components of your diet. The diet of an average American contains much more proteins and fats, than the diet of people from the rest of the world. Try bringing those levels down by cutting your consumption a little on sources which you can clearly identify to be doing so. Moreover, try to replace meat protein sources with non-meat protein sources as much as you can, or in other words, take lean proteins.

Tea

Tea is the favorite beverage of those who hate lumps of fats in their body. Herbal tea is good for your digestive system, blood circulation, cholesterol levels and has a soothing effect, while regular tea keeps you fit and active through out the day. Many people start their day by taking tea. Green tea after lunch and dinner acts a very good cleanser of your digestive tract and helps cutting on fats.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is the one of the healthiest options in edible oils. It also has a much wider use than other oil types. It can be used in your salad with a mixture of vinegar, as cooking oil, one of its primary uses, and is also used as a popular massage oil. Just take care that the temperature is not too high to let the oil remain intact from excessive cooking.

Nature has bestowed us with many gifts and we certainly have no excuse for not having a healthy body, if we make no use of them. Make those essential changes to your diet straight away, because although these rich food sources can offer all that you need, your eating habits are the main determinants of the health of your body.

Diabetes is a painful and one of the most common diseases in the United States, where million of people suffer from this life-altering experience. Diabetes is a condition in which the metabolism of the human body fails to produce insulin, a hormone essential for the storage of sugars and the processing of blood sugar.

Diabetes can be controlled once it is timely diagnosed, but if you know any of the diabetics, you will come to know that this disease changes their life forever, especially their diet. It is not a fatalistic disease in itself, but can lead to many complications if necessary care is not taken by the patient. A diabetes patient usually undergoes extensive treatment and constant monitoring in order to control the effects of the disease.

Diabetes is a complex disease and is commonly found to affect patients in two broad types. In the first type, the body of the patient fails to produce insulin, which affects its ability to store sugar in its cells. In the second type, the tissues of the body simply stop responding to insulin. Both these types are chronic in nature and require careful monitoring and treatment.

There is another form of diabetes, known as the so-called Gestational Diabetes, which is temporary and appears in pregnant women due to the clash of certain hormones with the function of insulin in the body. This condition usually does not require any treatment and disappears after childbirth.

Complications arise in how the disease affects a patient as different symptoms surface for different individuals after diagnosis. Like the symptoms, the treatment of diabetes is highly subjective as well. For the treatment of Type 1 diabetes, insulin is injected into the blood stream of the patient, but its dosage may vary from one individual to the other.

There is no such requirement for the treatment of the Type 2 diabetes and only modifications in diet and prescription of supplements and exercise is required. However, in both kinds of treatment, the changes in the lifestyle and dietary patterns vary for different individuals, as per the particular case.

Proper caution and constant monitoring is the key to controlling diabetes, which otherwise could lead to further deterioration of health and to many other diseases, which could potentially prove to be fatal. Intensive treatment, and detailed and repetitive consultation with your physician is what can help you in controlling this disease, the severity and lethality of which should never be underestimated.

Another very effective way is to learn more about the disease and about how to minimize its ill effects on your body. The more you know about it, the lesser it will be affecting your health.

Physicians also recommend that patients should research diabetes themselves and explore the different kinds of treatment available for their specific conditions, in order to help them making a decision for themselves. For this purpose a number of websites which provide a lot of information and resource material are available on the internet.

However, the problem that patients face in accessing the required information is that there is too much of it and that it is scattered all over the internet, which only ends up confusing the researcher. Among such a plethora of information, the best choice seems to be selecting websites that specialize in information relating diabetes.

There is one of these websites, which covers over a dozen essential areas of diabetes including causes, symptoms, treatment, exercise, medication and drugs, prevention, related blogs and discussion forums for people to share experiences and many more. It also contains useful and informative articles written by medical experts.

Only learning more about diabetes and keeping in close touch with your physician can help make a recovery and a return to your normal life. But in order to effectively gain knowledge about the disease without wasting any time or getting confused, you must first look for the appropriate online resource or website, which is accessible, useful and offers quality information.

People are usually seen facing a lot of stress and anxiety while making efforts to lose weight, and are found to engage in unbalanced and self-torturing activities to get the desired results. In fact, their approach should exactly be the opposite.

All you have to do is to modify your daily routine a little to allow some room for you to take care of your health. You dont have to spend laborious hours in a gym, you dont have to cut drastically on your diet and you dont even have to make your professional and social lives suffer, and you still would be able to lose weight and maintain it for a long period of time.

Just remember three healthy steps to lose weight without hassle.

Work Out Daily

This step can really save you from some anxiety attacks if you end up putting on some pounds. Daily and consistent exercise will help you to control and maintain your weight in a very smooth, orderly and effective manner. All you have to do is to make sure that you take a little time out for it. If you are short of time, let it be for at least half an hour only.

But in order to enjoy its benefits, you need to be regular and consistent. You could jog in the nearest park, or take a two-mile fast paced walk or ride a bicycle. If you are not able to make it to the outdoors, you could walk using a treadmill or work out on an exercise cycle. Which ever way you do it, you must realize the importance of this step.

Physical exercise makes your whole body work and each and every muscle of your body needs some kind of physical activity in order to grow stronger and healthier. And most of all, the most important muscular organ of your body, your heart, benefits from it.

Your heart really is the root to your health. Since the heart performs the critical function of delivering oxygen-rich blood to nourish all parts of your body, a good circulation system and a healthy heart is important to your health. If you have a healthy and strong heart, all your bodily functions will be performed in an efficient manner, your mind will remain more active and you will be able to concentrate better on things, which can considerably help you in your professional life. Daily exercise will prevent you from being affected from serious problems like diabetes, heart diseases and obesity.

Eat in Moderation

A balanced life-style and moderate eating habits are the key to a healthy body and controlling your weight. Cutting back on your diet may actually give way to excessive consumption of what you were avoiding in the first place and anxious eating patterns.

Instead, do not completely deprive yourself of all the tastes in the world, unless your physician has directed you to do so, but consume in a moderate and balanced fashion, so you do not disturb the balance of your diet, and thus lose control over your weight.

Consume small portions of different portions of your meal, regardless of their nutritious value. Doing so will adapt your stomach for taking lesser amounts of food. You can feel full by drinking more water for doing so.

Find A Work Out Partner

Research shows that working out with a partner brings much better results, helps maintain your diet, keeps you interested and helps developing an exercise routine and has other long-term benefits. You can explore the benefits of this step even further by assigning each other the task of monitoring how the other mate is doing in losing weight.

This way you will feel accountable and responsible for your exercise and other healthy activities as well. Not only will this make you more organized, but will also enhance the emotional value of your health experience.

Follow these twelve simple ways to become a healthier person, to lose weight, to sleep better and to enhance the immunity of your body.

1. Lie Down to Conquer Back Pain

Is that back pain not letting you sleep? Get rid of it or prevent getting any such pains at all through a simple exercise. Lie down on the floor with knees bent, feet on the floor and hips width apart. Do this daily for five to fifteen minutes. The exercise will release and lengthen your spine.

2. Watch What You Eat

Dont starve yourself to lose weight. Rather, rely on a healthy and balanced diet, which has other benefits as well. Maintain a log of your diet and note down your eating habits. That will pretty much explain your body to you. Select healthier food sources and get healthier as a result.

3. BreatheDeeply

Never underestimate the importance of taking deep breaths. Whenever you take 10 deep breaths, your lymphatic system, the one which cleans up waste from all your cells, clears up all your toxins. Do that three times a day and youll be getting 20% more oxygen to your brain.

4. Chew Before You Swallow

During meals, put your fork down after every mouthful. It will enable you to chew your food properly before you gulp it down. This will prevent your digestive tract from being bombarded by food, will keep it healthy and will keep you from over-eating.

5. Make Lists

In order to avoid frustration over repetitive mistakes and unfairly judging yourself as forgetful, write down the important things you need to remember and make a list of things to do. The short term human memory can only keep seven things in store on an average. This will save you from a lot of stress, anxiety and possibly hypertension.
So dont blame your memory the next time you forget something to do.

6. Massage Your Hands & Feet

For that peaceful and deep sleep, you need to get your body temperature a little lower. This happens when heat is dispelled through your face, hands and feet, one of the most active parts of your body throughout the whole day. However, as a lot of women have poor circulation, they could use a bath, or massage to their hands and feet to improve their circulation and enjoy better sleep.

7. An Organic Apple A Day

Of all the organic fruits and vegetables, may be apples are the best buy to be selected in their organic version, as apples, more than any other fruit or vegetable, carry pesticide residue, up to 71%. So the next time you shop for Organic food, keep this fact in mind.

8. Prefer White Tea

When it comes to Tea, try making the transition from Green to White. White Tea is extracted from the same plant, which is the source of Black and Green Tea. The only difference is that it is harvested earlier than the other types, and due to lesser processing, contains more anti-oxidants that are helpful against cancer.

9. Eat Dried Apricots for Iron

A deficiency in Iron can cause irritability, tiredness and lack of concentration, and is one of the most common deficiencies. It can easily be covered by eating lean red meat at least twice a weak, or at least three dried apricots a day.

10. Never Skip Meals

Ever wondered why most of the people take three meals in a day? A full supply of energy sources is essential to a healthy body and an active mind. Skipping meals will not do you any good if you are looking to lose weight. A full dose of food is the best way to balance sugar levels in your body and will help you to work better with better concentration, tolerance and energy levels.

11. Eat Fruits & Vegetables Raw & Fresh

Never hesitate to eat fruits and vegetables in the fresh and raw form as much as you can. It is a well known fact that a lot of nutrients, minerals and especially vitamins in vegetables and fruits are lost during excessive cooking. Make sure to include some vegetables and fruits in the raw form in your salad in every meal.

12. Enjoy Your Aerobics

Try to indulge your senses in the experience of aerobics and physical exercise. Enjoy every moment of it, and do not push it beyond your limits, or you will get tired of it. Those who love their exercise and running will tell you that achieving that exercise high is worth much more than just reducing your waist line.

The younger generation of our age, which is largely occupied by computers and other electronic gadgets, are spending hours and hours, almost in addiction, in front of the television screens, playing computer games or on the internet in one of the most passive and lazy activities imaginable. Such tendencies surely affect their health. The growing rates of obesity among children are mostly caused by the lack of any outdoor or healthy activity for these children.

Campaigners like Jamie Oliver, are making their utmost efforts to help children and their parents in reducing the alarming childhood obesity rates through a variety of activities. His Feed Me Better Campaign (at feedmebetter.com) is also concentrating on reducing or eliminating the junk food items on the school menus. It is through his efforts that parents are now relieved by the removal of products like Turkey Twizzlers from where their children eat at school.

The importance of ensuring your children a balanced lifestyle, with a good portion of healthy outdoor activities, along with a nutritious and balanced diet cannot be ignored for their mental and physical health. But the real problem is how to persuade children to leave that dreaded computer or television screen for some fresh air and outdoors that they are missing out on.

Parents need not worry too much for choosing the outdoor activities that their children would be involved in, as a lot of outdoor products, which accompany all the safety precautions and are designed specifically for children, are available. You can set up one of the products by the Early Learning Center (ELC) in your garden. As we are well into the summers now, you can start hunting for the product that is just right for you and your children.

One of the most popular is Trampoline, which is thought to have been originated by the Eskimos, who used to toss individuals in the air on a Walrus skin, which was probably the first ever formal trampolining. In the UK as well, the activity gained popularity through a similar practice, in which people tossed each other holding a large blanket.

Trampoline will surely draw your children to the outdoors, as it is really a fun-filled activity and is popular among most of the children. Not only does it enable them to have a good time, but also benefits their physical and psychological health immensely. You can select just the right Trampoline product for your family on the ELC website, which offers a buyers guide to help you in making decisions, while also offering Trampoline Surrounds and Trampoline Covers for necessary protective measures.

As you are able to offer your child a fun-filled outdoor activity in trampolining without worrying about their safety too much, you could also try it yourselves once in a while, as your body needs the activity and fun as much, as it could help you in losing some pounds. Lead by setting an example.

Everyone wants a healthy body and a healthy mind. Only in the best of your health can you enjoy your life to the fullest and cherish your happiness with your loved ones. Improve your health and personality through 10 simple ways.

Have fun while you exercise and make sure that you do it within your physical limits to fully enjoy and benefit from it.

Your heart is the most important organ of your body, and a healthy heart means a healthy and happy life. It is the organ that keeps you alive and requires your special attention. Omega 3, 6 and 9 supplements. Keep in close touch with your physician, and strictly follow any medication for your heart. It may keep you alive and well for long.

5. Drink a Lot of Water

Drink a lot of water, especially in the summers. It will keep you from dehydrating, is good for your skin and will flush out all those unwanted toxins form your body.

6. Boost Up Your Energy Levels

Get a manicure and pedicure every now and then. Get yourself a soothing massage. There are a number of options like aromatherapy and stone therapy, which you can choose from to help you relax.

8. Always Think Positively

Always maintain a Positive Mental Attitude, not only will that help you to succeed and to pursue your goals with a clearer vision, but it is also good for your emotional and psychological health. Focus on the positive side of things only.

Try telling yourself everything is fine, even if it is not. It will calm you down and with a cool mind, you can make things better.

9. Value Your Family Life

Understand the importance of your family life, value it. Never miss out on those precious moments which may never come back again.

Play with your kids. Have a good time. It will bind your family together.

Many people are even calling it an Obesity Endemic which is affecting the lives of millions across the country. A lot of pills, powders and lotion claiming instant results are available, but fail to deliver anything substantial.

Similar have been the results of a variety of diet plans that claim to be effective agents of weight loss. And there are so many of them anyway, and you find yourself in indecision when it comes to their selection.

In fact, your weight has more to do with your lifestyle and eating habits than anything else, and the same factors hold the key to the cure for obesity. You can follow 4 very simple tips for losing weight.

1. Drink a Lot of Water

Being an obese person does not really necessitate the impossibility of dehydration. In fact, most Americans are borderline dehydrated. Lack of sufficient supply of water causes your body to work on the water starvation reflex, which prevents any toxins to be flushed out of your body.

2. Eat Frequently

It sound a little odd as a weight loss tip, since for losing weight it is necessary to take less calories than you can actually burn. But you have to keep eating in order to regulate your metabolism. Dont starve yourself to lose weight, and never miss out on those vital nutrients that your breakfast can provide you.

3. Stay Active

One of the most widely known, and yet the most neglected of all the weight loss tips is exercise. There just simply no other substitute to physical activity. Analyze how much you really move around in an average day in your life. Dont be lazy and move around at your home, your workplace, play with your kids and park your car at a distance from your office. Find and enjoy little opportunities to move your muscles a little.

4. Determine Your Purpose

Finally and most importantly, determine why you want to lose weight. Every person may have his or her own reasons. Some may want to become athletes, while others would do it for beauty pageants. Whatever may be your reason, it surely will help motivate you to achieve the desired results.

To me, the most important part of losing weight is to live a long and healthy life, to see my children grow and to go out and play with my grandchildren without ever losing breath.
